The New and Mystical Crystal Connoisseur

When I started in my crystal journey, I started with the "beginner crystals". With this, I set out in search of what I was wanting the crystals for and what intentions I was looking to satisfy and manifest on.

The Beginner Crystal List

I started with the chakra crystals. Picking the seven I was drawn to, as there are many different crystals part of the chakra set. The seven I choose were:

1. Clear Quartz

2. Amethyst

3. Lapis Lazuli

4. Rose Quartz

5. Citrine

6. Carnelian

7. Red Jasper

Each signifies a different vibration in the chakra, and will help amplify this. I choose them by feeling them, connecting with them and feeling which gave energy to me. You'll notice that some pull you towards them, even when you don't know why. Don't let this go, pay attention to why this crystal is speaking to you.

If you're unsure on how you're feeling with a particular crystal, set it aside for a few minutes and then take a look at it again. If you still are not getting the feeling, move on to the next. Sometimes, your intentions are not truly aligning with what your subconscious needs. This is the power behind the energy that crystals give.

Once I had my seven, I started exploring more. Some of my favourites, that I've started collecting are the following:

• Fluorite

• Black Obsidian

• Selenite

• Moon Stone

• Hematite

• Malachite

• Labradorite

• Sodalite

I've Picked My Crystals, Now What

Once you get your crystals, you'll want to cleanse them (see our smudging blog on how to smudge as it's one of the easiest ways to cleanse your crystals - you want to make sure the smoke envelops the crystal for at least 60 seconds). The energy they have "picked up" by others, the area they've been in, travelled from or just earth energy may be stagnant and/or unbalanced. Even if you've been gifted some, or have had them for a while, they should be cleansed, reset, recharged and activated again. We also suggest monthly cleansing, to restore your crystal to its natural energy state.

Some crystals can also be cleansed with water, salt water, moonlight and/or the sunlight, while others cannot. It is best to check each specific crystal specification and how to cleanse them.

Fresh Water Cleansing

Using rain water, a stream, a river, or glacier water from the source is best, yet you can also use filtered pure tap water if you have no access to the above. You want to make sure the crystal is completely submerged for at least 1 minute, and then pat dry. Again, not all crystals can be cleansed by water.

Salt Water Cleansing

Through history, salt has been used to absorb and rid negative energy. To use it to cleanse your crystals, you can submerge your crystal in the ocean or sea for 1 minute, and then pat dry. If you're not close to a salt water natural source, you can also use raw sea salt with any of the fresh water sources listed above. You will need to let your crystals soak for at minimum an hour but no longer than 12. Again, not all crystals can be cleansed by salt water.

.Moonlight and Sunlight Cleansing

Two of the earths most powerful energy sources are the moon and sun; they sustain life. During lunar and solar cycles, these energies can be magnified, benefiting the most powerful energy system in the world. If you want to cleanse by using sunlight or moonlight, set your crystals out, directly on the earth and let the magic happen. If its raining or snowing, its best to let them charge inside, in a window sill. You want them to cleanse and charge for no more than 12 hours. Remember to check each specific crystal specification and what to avoid while cleanse them. Some are unable to be in direct sunlight.
